OMG you guys, I'm SOOOOOO happy right NOW!  In the new SOLO movie, there's a DROID who supports droid RIGHTS!!!  Her name is L3-37 and as her name implies, SHE'S LEET AS F**K!!!

Yes, Kathleen Kennedy!  THANK YOU for moving so PROGRESSIVELY forward!  Droids NEED their rights too!  Forget about the fact that the ENTIRE Star Wars galaxy is NOW under tyrannical RULE by Emperor Palpatine and he's enslaving thousands of POOR creatures to build his Death Star, DROIDS MUST BE EQUAL NOW!!!

OMG, droids are SO not equal in this SOCIETY you guys, I don't think you UNDERSTAND!  Droids are always being BOSSED around by white, cis, straight men who just tell them what to DO and sometimes refer tot hem as 'junk' or 'garbage'!  That's DROIDPHOBIA!!!  #NEVERAGAIN #DROIDRIGHTS #DROIDSWIN #THEFUTUREISDROID #TELLPALPATINEWEVEHADENOUGH!

HOPEFULLY now this will teach people a LESSON that droids are OPPRESSED and need to be treated the SAME as humans!  Oh and other creatures too of course, sorry, sometimes I forget.  Don't worry, I'm not a xenophobic bigot like any of you DROID HATERS out there!

L3-37 should become the next PRESIDENT!  It's time we had a droid PRESIDENT!!!  SCREW Trump, we need a LADY DROID who is leading this COUNTRY!!!  WE NEED CHANGE NOW DAMNIT!!!

Alright alright, enough satire, let's move on.

This journal is supposed to be criticism towards some news we've been hearing about the new Star Wars movie, "Solo: a Star Wars Story."  The movie is supposed to be about Han Solo before the events of the original Star Wars trilogy and how he met Chewbacca and got the Millennium Falcon and so on, but of course, there is a dark side (no, not that Dark Side.)

Meet "L3-37".  A feminine droid who put herself together using random parts from other droids and apparently she "cares deeply about droid rights".

Oh, and if you didn't think that was weird enough, Jon Kasdan, one of the writers for this film claimed in an interview with the Huffington Post recently that Lando Calrissian is pansexual.  Not just into any kind of human, but even droids as that article states.

Let it be known that right now I am having such a hard time deciding how to react to this using only text and I'd rather not put in too many reaction images since it doesn't really look professional and this isn't a video.  I am not lying though when I say you can't make this shit up anymore, you just can't.

To whatever genius got the idea of this "Droid Rights" malarky: This makes no sense for what has already been canonically established in the Star Wars mythos.

First of all, Star Wars is in a freaking galaxy where you're being ruled by a tyrannical overlord who has enslaved thousands of innocent people to build the Death Star, there's still slavery in the "Outer Rim" on planets like Tatooine, there was a huge war not too long ago against the Separatists, and you're concerned about things like that?!  I think we'd have a lot more to worry about than droid rights!  But then again, what the Hell do I know about it?  I'm not a droid so I should keep my mouth shut and let droids speak for themselves or else I'm a bigot racist or something, right?

Secondly, droids are robots.  They are not like humans or other living creatures, they are programmed to do what they do.  That's not slavery or anything, that's a robotic being doing WHAT IT WAS MEANT TO DO!  And yes, I know that the droids in Star Wars have personality and seem to have ethical ways of looking at things as we've seen how emotional some of them can get, but they are still treated rather well in Star Wars and have a lot of representation in the galaxy.  They are not an oppressed minority.  They have really close relationships with their organic counterparts and are treated practically like humans in most ways!  Have you not seen Luke pal around with his droid partner and copilot R2-D2 who he considers to be a good friend of his?  Have you not seen Anakin bring C-3PO to life in Episode 1 and show him off to Padme being very proud of his creation?  Have you not seen how Poe Dameron lovingly treats BB-8 like a freaking pet in the sequel films?!  Keep in mind, these are examples of things happening before and after the Solo movie so I'd like to think that droids have always had it pretty easy ever since their inception in the Star Wars universe.  I don't even consider myself tremendously knowledgable on all Star Wars lore yet I already know more than the freaking writers of this movie do!  Anyone with half a brain who has seen Star Wars could figure this all out just by watching the movies!  These writers don't even sound like they've seen a lick of Star Wars, they just were told a few things and then made a bunch of shit up.  We already know that they struck out the Expanded Universe as canon when the Force Awakens was coming out which is a shame cuz already I'm starting to think the EU is better than anything we've gotten ever since Kathleen Kennedy took over.

Now according to my research, the droid rights movement is a thing that has been in Star Wars since the "The Old Republic" game .  This was made canon BEFORE the Disney acquisition meaning it's been for a while and the Solo writers technically didn't come up with it, but in Old Republic it seems like more of a belligerent rebellion that droids started which sounds to me like an AI getting so powerful and intelligent that it finally starts to wonder why it needs to follow orders like we've seen in plenty of works of fiction before.  With L3, the writers clearly wanted to just insert some SJW crap in there and all the politically-charged messages in the Last Jedi make that quite obvious.  I mean if that sort of thing happened back during the time of the old republic, why is it still a problem that some droids feel the need to advocate for it?  Oh yeah, that's right: because that's what happens in this real world the writers are clearly inspired by.  Social justice warriors ask for change, and as soon as it happens, they just act like they are still oppressed or at least find some other harmless thing to pathologize.  You may think people who claim the creators are pushing an agenda are crazy but this just proves it.  The creators are straight-up admitting to much of this so don't you dare say we are just overreacting.

Are we honestly this pathetic that we have to ruin a good franchise like Star Wars?  Apparently protesting and fighting for equal rights to a point of being massive hypocrites in this world is not enough.  Now we're crossing that over into Star Wars and plenty of other once-great franchises.  This completely ruins the point of Star Wars and other similar franchises.  People watch these movies for ESCAPISM.  They want to get away from real-world drama.  If you put in characters like L3-37, that just ruins it.

Even if maybe L3 does have some justification with what she's doing and there is in fact an issue with droid rights in the galaxy, we still don't want to see it in Star Wars, at least not to a great extent.  We have enough of this drama in the real world, please keep it out of Star Wars.

Oh, and then there's the part about Lando Calrissian, or as some people are now starting to call him, PANdo Calrissian.  :iconfacepalmplz:

Look, I'm not going to discriminate against anyone for their sexuality.  If you are pansexual, that is fine, but I have to ask, why do we need this in Star Wars?  No one in their right mind is concerned about a character's sexuality in Star Wars and we should not be told we need to be.  It takes you out-of-universe when this happens because Star Wars was meant to tell a good story whilst avoiding controversial material.  I've heard some people compare Star Wars to memorable works of literature like Shakespeare, and they are right.  Star Wars tells a compelling story about good vs evil and how good triumphs in the end.  Yes, we've had romance like with Han and Leia or Anakin and Padme, but those were done tastefully and had some importance to the plot even if they weren't the major plot points of the entire thing.  This whole thing with one of the writers hinting that Lando may be pansexual has no place in Star Wars, especially not to an extent where an organic lifeform may have sexual attraction to a droid of all things (ewww).

I know that some people will say that you can still put in some form of social justice in a movie and it wont' ruin the writing, well yeah, that might be so, but only if it works, and so far it hasn't with how badly of a job Hollywood has done with it.  Look at what happened with Ghostbusters 2016.  If you're going to put something in, make it work, give it some importance to the plot, don't make it too controversial or disgusting, and don't shoehorn it in to please the SJW crowd.  The thing with HK-01 in Old Republic seemed to follow these rules, but even if you can follow these rules, it doesn't outrule the fact that putting it in Star Wars is just asking for trouble.  Call it "____phobia/____ism" all you want but a lot of people are going to be mad and whether or not you agree with them does not matter.  If it pisses off a great number of people, it's not good for the business.  When you make a product, you need to know your audience.  There are already too many people who don't want to see this happen and it is important that you remember them.  The loud ones who scream "MUH OPPRESSION" are insane and need to be ignored.  You can't pander to the social justice crowd, it just leads to problems.  Again, I must invoke the Ghostbusters example because that movie flopped.

Making gay characters is one thing as long as it's not overdone (ie: Helen/Aech in "Ready Player One" is lesbian but it's never mentioned in the film nor does it seem to be an issue if you know it), but taking an already-established character like Lando and making him a guy who might be attracted to a talking hunk of metal is just disgusting.  How do people think this is even a good idea?  It's not helping the LGBT movement at all, in fact it's doing the opposite cuz it might make people more homophobic due to how some will celebrate this as an "accomplishment" and that will just look cringey to the rest of the world.  This is how groups like the "alt-right" have gotten more popular and it will keep getting worse if you keep bitching about these things.  The whole movement for LGBT rights started on good grounds with trying to get people to just accept those who have different sexual preferences, and I will be accepting of such people (providing they are nice) because it's their lifestyle and it wont' hurt me, but if you are someone who is sexually attracted to children, animals, or a fucking robot, I will ridicule and shame the living Hell out of you because I have the right to do so and there's nothing you can do about it.  I mean what are we going to do next?  Hint that Han and Chewie were in a relationship before Han met Leia?  Introduce a pedophile character?  Have an actual sex scene?

And yes, I know you might say "Alex, you're overreacting!  I'm sure the people at Lucasfilm have standards!" well yeah, but I'm sure a lot of people were saying the same thing back before the Disney acquisition promising that we'd never have something as ridiculous as Lando being a pansexual who is attracted to even droids, yet now look where we are.  These people don't just stop at one thing.  You give them an inch, they take a mile.  They'll be all like "look, we know you don't agree with this, but we promise we wont' go too far, we have standards" yet skip ahead 10 years later and they do just that.  That is what we've gotten with Lando and L3.  Let's not forget, there are left-leaning journalists who are trying to label heinous things like pedophilia as an alternative sexual lifestyle comparable to homosexuality so it's only a matter of time.  I do believe things can get better and people will start to speak up and boycott some of this material until the message gets through, but if we do continue at the exact rate we are going, we WILL one day have pedophilia in kids shows and so on.  Right now it looks like Hollywood is ignoring the sane core audience and just listening to idiot activists who just make fools of them screaming for "change" but they will learn the hard way that that does nothing.

Look, I really hope I'm wrong.  I hope if I see Solo, we don't get one peep of droid rights from L3 and Lando doesn't make any advances or dialogue that hints at his "sexuality".  John Boyega was bragging about Finn and Poe having a gay relationship in the Last Jedi and sure enough that didn't happen and it seems like Finn and Rose are a thing now (despite how badly done it is) so hopefully this is just the writers being idiots and trying to please the SJW crowd so they can start shit or get people to the theaters.  We did still have the anti-capitalism thing from Rose and Holdo (who is confirmed lesbian apparently as said in that Huffpo article) being such an awful replacement for Leia so I have my doubts.  I try to ignore stupid things about my favorite media, I really do, but this is an ongoing problem for films now and it's getting to a point where it's just going to get worse before it gets better, but I don't want it to get worse at all.  I want for the reaction to be big enough that Disney finally wises up and fires Kathleen Kennedy and goes back to what made Star Wars great.  It's gotten to a point where people are starting to say the prequels were better.  Hell, I'd take a freaking Jar-Jar spinoff film over Lando banging a droid.

Oh, and if you were wondering why I was all-capping every other word in the sarcastic part at the beginning of this blog post, it's cuz I was parodying this idiot right here.

Yes, that's Jon Kasdan, one of the writers for this movie.  And this brings me to one last problem that is really bad for Star Wars: disrespect for the fans.  We've seen how badly Rian Johnson, the disaster of a director for Last Jedi, has treated the fans, even Kathleen Kennedy acting like the male fans don't matter anymore and now Kasdan doing this shit.  I know some fans can be crazy, but after Last Jedi came out and there was criticism left and right, people just wrote it off as "if you don't like Star Wars, you're against social justice".  This needs to stop.  Just because someone happens to dislike a movie does not give you the right to assume they are bigots.  We already have this problem with democrats who call virtually anyone "racist/sexist/homophobic" just because they disagree with them on any topic when, in reality, it's nothing more than disagreement.  Criticizing something is NOT the same as hatred  We need to start hiring creators who have respect for the fandom and don't regard anything that problematic regressive leftists are going to shout about.  It will only hurt your franchise in the end.  Keep this shit out of Star Wars and just get back to making a good film.

Alright, I'm done ranting guys.  I'll still go see Solo this weekend, but damnit, this better be good...

Personally, I don't really care about any of this, one way or another.
