Saw the S4 premier and Chaos Rising will be fine

Journal Entry: Sat Nov 23, 2013, 1:02 PM
Ok for those of you who didn't know, contrary to the rest of the fandom, this morning was terrible for me.  The power went out on my TV despite the fact that the weather was beautiful and there was no wind or lightning to cause a power outage and even the livestreams did no good so I basically saw only about 60% of the episode and was thus confused.  I took care of the incompetent lousy electricians in the area after what happened with my TV but due to graphic content that part has been removed.  *shoves unconscious bodies under bed*

SPOILERS AHEAD!

Anyway, I've seen the premier about 2 or 3 times already and it sure was great!  Best episode we've gotten in a while and the pacing was better than the S3 finale!   It was interesting how Discord wasn't the villain in this but he kind of was in a sense with the whole planting of the seeds and whatnot.  The concept of the Tree of Harmony was interesting too.

Only thing is the flashbacks were kinda awkward for me and not just cuz it goes against my headcanon or anything but because the first 2 were too anti-climactic.  The part with Nightmare Moon was awesome and it was great to finally see how that all happened but damnit it was too quick!  Nightmare Moon lasted barely even 2 freaking minutes and then just like that Celestia had the Elements called out and banished her!

And then that one with Discord.......just wow.  First of all, Celestia and Luna looked the exact same as they are now and even spoke the same exact way.  Were they EVER younger-looking at all?!  It's like they're ageless or something!  And Discord, like seriously?  Is he really that stupid?  We did get to see why he was laughing when he was turned to stone for the first time but good golly, this guy has a bad habit of letting his guard down when he most needs it!  O_o

Now that final bit where it showed Celestia and Luna going to the Tree of Harmony made sense and it's interesting to see where they found the Elements.  Oh and that little chest with six keylocks intrigues me.  I'm on the edge of my seat wondering where they're going with that!  :D

Now I know last week I said how I'm worried that it could ruin my fanfic and............well to be completely honest it did.  For those who aren't familiar with Age of the Alicorns: Chaos Rising, Celestia and Luna are kids in my story and how they find the Elements is done a little differently and how Discord is defeated is done WAAAAAAAAAAAAY differently and no offense to the DHX writers but totally more climactic than it was in that flashback.  I even envisioned the whole Nightmare Moon incident differently but I'll get to that story later on.

I like to think that those flashbacks Twilight saw may have been downplayed a bit.  They were just flashbacks after all.  Maybe the first two were shown a bit differently just to speed things up so the entire episode wouldn't take forever.  Perhaps they're hiding an even bigger part of what really happened?  The one about the Tree of Harmony was the real important one in the end.  It was the one that Twilight needed to see to know where they needed to put the Elements and that makes a lot more sense to me than the first 2 flashbacks did.

The point is that despite all the inconsistencies with my story, the fanfic is going to be fine.  I'm not going to change Celestia and Luna to adults (seriously, they had to be kids at one point) and Discord's defeat will be more entertaining and climactic but I do need to include the Tree of Harmony in there somewhere cuz we all know that that's real cuz we saw it outside of Twilight's flashbacks.  I'll be doing a tad bit of rewriting to Chaos Rising but just like with the whole Starswirl the Bearded thing in MMC, it's not going to hurt the story, in fact it will make it more interesting.  :D

Well that's all I really have to say.  I don't have the time to do one of those long reviews like I used to and I'm not sure I want to either.  You guys let me know if you wanna see those again, otherwise I hope you all enjoyed the show and YAAAAAAAY, PONIES ARE FINALLY BACK!!!!  :iconfinallyplz:

I can't help wonder if this means that twilight and her friend's can't use the elements anymore

Loved the season premier myself, it's really great to be looking forward to weekly episodes again!
While pacing is sometimes an issue with stories like these, the writers are given a limited amount of time to tell these stories, and while it may be a two-parter that's still a pretty limited amount of time when you think about it. And while the Nightmare Moon flashback segment was shorter than many expected it to be, they had to be able to move on and tell the rest of the story at a fixed pace, so it didn't bother me that much.

What makes you think that they HAD to be kids?

Because we've been seeing them as adults for thousands of years now, I'd like to see more variety with their characters therefore seeing them as kids.  We've seen Granny Smith as a younger adult pony, we've seen the mane six as fillies, we've seen Spike as a baby, I would like to see the princesses at a younger and physically different age too.  I know they're more likely immortal beings who've been around for a couple thousand years but seeing them as adults constantly wears off and I'm sure I speak for more than one person when I say I really wanna see filly Luna.  :3

Ah, well you know how some mythical beings never had a childhood.

Well I don't consider them to be like those types of beings.  Having them be ageless deities just kinda seems cliche and makes them less interesting to me.  I mean they could still have had a childhood and maybe the reason they didn't look that young in that flashback was because they were full-grown adults at that time and their childhood dates waaaaaaay back to ancient times.
