Bronies, we need to talk.

Ok, so yesterday someone sent me a note on Deviant Art reminding me how there's been some drama in the brony fandom lately and asked if I had ever planned on quote unquote "leaving the fandom".

First of all: Why am I getting this as a note on DA?  Seriously, this isn't Tumblr guys, send me stuff like that on Tumblr, no one talks to me on Tumblr!

Second: Oooooooh, surprise surprise, there's drama in the fandom and let's completely ignore the drama that's been going on in other fandoms and the fact that there has been drama in this fandom ever since day 1 pretty much!  (anypony remember the 4chan wars?)

Third:  ME LEAVE THE FANDOM?!?!  REALLY?!?

Look guys, I know a lot of people in the brony fandom have "left" us or have just stopped making fan-content due to either having to move on with their life or they just don't like it anymore and that has you down but why am I being asked if I'm leaving the fandom?  I haven't even shown any signs of wanting to leave the fandom.  And quite frankly, I'm able to look past all the drama we've been through lately and you wanna know how I do it?  Well it's quite simple actually:  I watch the news.

People, THERE IS DRAMA ALL OVER THE DAMN WORLD!  Do you guys even watch the news?  I guess not.  Most people refuse to watch the news because they always talk about the bad stuff happening in the world but that's just the thing.  You don't have to necessarily drown yourself in negativity but if you'd actually take some time to educate yourself and see what terrible things are happening all over the world I think you'd come back and say "Wow, the brony fandom is nothing compared to that!  I'm glad to be part of this fandom now!"  A lot of times I am just left facepalming and rolling my eyes at a lot of the stories that go around on TV but I do it because I know I need to be prepared for the crazy world I live in and it challenges me to see the contrasting good in this world.  Honestly, the brony fandom is a walk in the park compared to all the things happening in the news and I wont' even go into details, just go pick up the remote and watch it.  I suggest the O'Reilly Factor.

But enough about that.  Sure, there has been some drama in the past year or so:  Derpygate, Las Pegasus Unicon, Fighting is Magic getting a Cease and Desist, Twilicorn and Equestria Girls haters, Sweet Apple Acres Con being cancelled, Down with Molestia, off-season fever, the tabloid-style stories being spread about us all over Tumblr by brony haters, brony "analyzers" apparently spreading too much negativity and criticism causing some people to think the show is "dying" and so is the fandom, JanAnimations getting a Cease and Desist, AleximusPrime is drawing pinups now... The list goes on.

But guys there are worse things happening all over the world.  Kids in Africa are starving and you're worried about things as simple as Twilight Sparkle getting wings?  I don't know if you guys have noticed yet but when you rant and rave about bad things that happen and bring so much attention to it, you're actually repelling the very thing that you desire: peacefulness.  Well I guess that's only for most of you, some people actually do like to cause a stir but hey, if you've got someone like that in your life, don't contribute to what they are doing.

Just ignore those bad things and pretend they can't affect you unless it's something extreme like if a person is killed for being a brony.  But even then, that's another thing that happens all over the world.  Numerous religious people, mainly Christians, have been martyred and maimed throughout the ages for what they believe.  When the day comes that bronies are being physically tortured by terrorists, then you have every right to worry.  Until then, be thankful that isn't actually happening to us.  Now I haven't given up my beliefs just because I'm hated by so many people for it because I know where I stand with my faith and I'm too stubborn to let anyone tell me to do otherwise.

All in all, I know this is a very cliche thing to say but just screw the haters.  Be who you are.  If you like MLP and you like the fandom then be a part of it and be proud that you are part of it.  Don't back out due to a bit of drama because by that logic you shouldn't be involved with any community whatsoever and should just pretty much shut yourself away from the world in a little shed in the forest getting cabin fever and living off uncooked Ramen Noodles.  Yeah, do not ask me how I came up with that scenario.

As for me, no, I am NOT leaving the fandom.  I have way too many awesome things planned for you guys for me to back out and I'm having waaay too much fun with these conventions and all the awesome friends I've made in it.  Why would I want to leave all that behind?!  If I did leave the fandom I'd miss it too much and just come back a few days later anyway.  And for those of you out there who have been tempted to leave the fandom, I hope this spoke to you and if it did, please show it to a friend going through the same thing.  Let's spread the word, this fandom needs more positivity in it for sure.

So thanks for listening guys, be safe, remember that friendship is magic, and in the words of Unikitty...

STAY POSITIVE!!!

Unikitty by AleximusPrime

Yeah, kinda unrelated but I mean I couldn't not include it!  Come on, who can resist Unikitty?

TL;DR:  There's drama everywhere.  Learn to deal with it.  Don't let it affect your place in the brony fandom.

Excellently put. People need to realize that drama is everywhere, and that each and every fanbase/community has drama.

I'm with you all the way.

I ignore the drama. I will not let stupid stuff ruin my fun.

The Brony fandom is supposed to be about fun and friendship, not drama and disharmony.
All Fandoms have drama in them. But, do not let that ruin your life. Stay positive, my friends.

Alex, here is the way I see it. As long as you have just a few people still watching the show and enjoying the fan content for what it is the fandom will never die in my heart. And for those who choose to leave or what ever they want to call it, just do it and not make such a scene about like a few people I know has.

This fandom has gave me so much inspiration and a positive outlook on life, their is nothing in the would that would stop me from showing my love to the bronies

I moved on with my life and from the fandom a while ago. I don't have much of a reason to stick around in it anymore. Yes I'll still enjoy the show and the art. But I'm not adding anything anymore.

Actually I left because I lost my reason to be a part of the fandom.

I can handle the drama of it, but...I'm not going to go anywhere as a writer if I just write fanfiction my entire life. -.- I need to take my bigger projects seriously instead of just dinking around in a fandom that might tear itself apart with the drama. If it hasn't already.

I'm not leaving the fandom either! I've survived all these drama uprisings and stayed positive. I've looked to Digibro and Ink Rose as Analysis Brony role-models because they're some of the few who stay positive and don't convince us that "Hasbro's a demon of destruction!" or "Everything's gone to hell ever since Lauren Faust left!". I was able to stay positive because I have hope. Hope is what gives us what we need to accept everything that's beyond our control. Without hope we drown in sorrow and anger, go crazy, become negative and the next thing we know some group of "Revolutionist Bronies" make a pathetic excuse to want to go to war with Hasbro and to escape a reality they don't want to accept. Hopefully we can do everything Alex talked about and even I talked about and with hope we can finally end the division within the Brony Fandom's ranks.
In My Little Transformer 4: Return of the Shattered Rainbow I not only plan to take away the summit and climb the highest I've ever been in a project so far, but take both the Brony Fandom's problems and the real world's problems into account. There were two instances where Bronies were rejected from normal society (in Elementery School that is). One of our own almost killed himself from depression because of bullying. A boy was banned from bringing his Rainbow Dash backpack to school because the school wanted to "appease" to the bullies to prevent any fight from going on. Really legit issues right now include child upductions in foreign counties reaching an all-time high, Russia going down North Korea's path and making nuclear weapons, war-related atrocities continuing in the middle east and even murder still occuring like an everyday thing. Hideaki Anno took both his personal problems and his own nation's problems (like the sarin gas attack in Tokyo) into account when he weaved these experiences together into the smash hit deconstruction of the giant robot anime genre Neon Genesis Evangelion. I for one am going down Anno's path by trying to turn the grand finale to my cross-over between My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Transformers: Prime (along withe Transformers: Rescue Bots) into something even deeper with some metaphorical representations of these issues warning us what will happen if we take things a step too far.
It's time the negativity stopped right where it is, ended the fan wars that poison DeviantArt's soils and we make DeviantArt's soils fertile enough to grow flowers on once again. Flowers take away our urge to fight and do war, which is why I want people to post more of them here to remind us of the light at the end of every dark tunnel.
I also wonder, Did you update this Alex? I can't resist Unikitty either!

In a community that was built on a fountain of positiveness, friendship and tolerance, it makes sense that some negativity would stand out like a firefly in a pitch black wood.  It is however, just a lone speck in what is a vastly awesome community of talented and caring people.  I for one am proud to be part of it.  I'm also glad you are part of it, thanks Alex.

Sometimes I wonder if we are the only fandom that worries about dying.  It's like people are chicken little going "THE FANDOM IS DYING THE FANDOM IS DYING".

People in a fandom come and go.  People come and leave all the time.  It's a part of living.

I have seen quite a few people leave the fandom due to moving on or being bored with it, and it got me a little down, seeing there's no way I'd leave this awesome show and comics. But yeah, you are right about how the bronies create unnecessary drama and outside people that don't like us as well, we just have to learn how to deal with it sometimes. There are worse things, and people shouldn't stop watching the news because there's bad stuff on it, that's part of life. Thanks for this, it got a bit up again.

for me i can no longer be a brony that is why i am from this day joining a better fandom. from now on i will be a bro knee! ^^

I agree the drama in this fandom is nothing. and to be honest I never know about it unless I hear about it from others because I don't care. as long as the show makes me laugh i am happy. besides it takes too much effort to care about drama and unlike rarity I don't have the couch for it ^^

Very good points on this.  I consider myself a brony and realize there are some less-than-desirable aspects of the fandom, but what fandom doesn't have its bad eggs?  As far as drama and undesirable stuff or trolls, MLP is actually one of the most, if not THE most, tame and laid-back fandoms I've ever heard of or participated in.

Also agreed that drama is everywhere and learning to deal with it is important.  It's possible to enjoy any fandom and even life in general if you keep yourself aware that negatives exist, even when it isn't really possible to do anything to fix them, and not to let them bother you.  Screw the drama, just focus on the positives and build a strong mind when it comes to everything else.
