Ok, now THIS is what I've been wanting to hear! She was very honest, and she is the one who worked on the episode so this is probably the most legit news we've heard by far!
To all you Derpy haters who sent those reports or agree with whoever sent them, Amy said it herself: DERPY WAS NOT MEANT TO TARGET THE MENTALLY HANDICAPPED!!! She has a son named Soren (which is where Soarin got his name from by the way) who is mentally handicapped so I highly doubt she meant for that to happen at all. Derpy didn't even come across as 'retarded' to Amy either and Amy got only around 10 negative emails whereas there were around 200 positive ones so I think that explains the majority opinion rather well. So you see, we supportive fans won for the most part! Had it been the other way around, they would have taken her out completely and probably had that entire scene cut from the iTunes and DVD releases and junk Be really thankful that didn't happen guys, now please don't be all like "NOOOO, THE WORLD IS ENDING, WE ARE LOSING" and crap, it's really not that big of a deal.
It's just too bad that some people still use the term "derpy" to refer to the mentally retarded so there may be a problem with calling her that in the show, but that doesn't mean Derpy won't be cancelled out all together, we will still be seeing her in the background doing something silly just for a nod to the fans, but it doesn't look like we'll be seeing much more of her talking. Still, I could be wrong. My advice to the writers would be to make her talk more or have an episode about her but not make her seem "mentally retarded" just a little clumsy and stuff just like she seems to be.
And it still was up to Hasbro to make the decision to censor Derpy in the end because Amy didn't know what option to role with. And I know that when I posted my journal entry about the censoring I was kinda skeptical and stuff, but trust me guys, it could have been much worse. Let's not take this so seriously because some people are starting to see us all as rabid fans and to be honest we are overreacting a bit. It was enough to shake ShellToonTV's faith in the fandom sadly: [link] not let this get any worse guys. Be supportive, show Derpy some love, but don't hate on Hasbro/Hub/Apple/DHX/Studio B/Big Brother/the government/the world and stuff, let's be as sane as we can be...
