Someone just sent me a note saying "Hey, what do you think of my pony?" and linked me a pic of a solid-black pony with purple and black hair.  Only problem was, they didn't draw it, they made it in.........you guessed it right:  the pony creator.



I really wish DA had a feature that allowed you to limit your inbox to who exactly can send you notes so I wouldn't have to deal with this crap.  I"m so sick of people spamming me with notes.  But I need my notes open cuz that's how people contact me for commissions.  So I don't know what to do...

I've quit using the critiquing feature on my pics so now people can't misuse that when sending a critique for me, but DA needs to find a way to allow us to filter out our notes better without having to turn it off all together.  And this should also be an option with profile comments cuz I get a lot of spam on those too.  I guess since I rely on notes to get commissions from people, there really isn't any way I can do it to begin with.  

But mark my words, I don't want to see ANY of you guys coming to me spamming me with random crappy pics and any of those tags or chainmail spam!

And now dear watchers, it is with great disdain that I officially announce that I am permanently disabling critiques on my art due to so much rampant abuse of that option.  I apologize in advance to those of you who are actually good art critics and wanted to be able to critique my art but you can always use the comment section for that.  Critiques don't really matter to me that much anymore anyway.

For those of you who have suffered from awful critiquing, there is in fact a way you can turn them off.  So many of us may have accidentally set up critiques for our art without noticing it because Deviant Art has so cleverly hidden the on/off switch for critiques on the submit page and it is set to allow critiques by default every single time you upload.  And the fact that ANYONE can critique does not mix well with this scheme because it only welcomes more idiots and trolls to abuse the critiquing feature.  Anyways, here is how you disable critiques:

On the submit page, scroll down till you see a dropdown box that says "Publishing Options" and click it and uncheck "Request Critiques"

And for any other dumbflanks out there with brains the size of a robin egg, if you dare post anything like this in my comments, I will report them as spam without any hesitation.  Seriously, I feel like just automatically blocking anyone who sends these types of comments.  You are misusing Deviant Art's social-networking value and it sickens me to the core.  Now in the name of everything you hold dear, CUT IT OUT!

Some of you guys may have heard of Kiki, a young girl with cancer that Tara Strong put in the limelight recently to help raise charity to pay for hospital bills.  Bronies all over the web have been contributing money to her family for a while but sadly the donations have closed.  Kiki passed away this afternoon as explained in this tweet by Tara:

I sadly never got the chance to send money to them but I am proud to say that a lot of fans helped them out and sent a lot of money in the mean time.  I'm just sorry I never could have joined in.  But Kiki shall be missed and she will certainly never be forgotten.  My thoughts and prayers go out to Kiki's family and friends.  And thanks to Tara and everyone else who helped in some way.

This journal entry is set up as a list of rules and guidelines as well as rates for my commissions.  Come here first before asking me for a commission and familiarize yourself with these rules.  My profile page will have a message saying if they are open or not but you can visit this entry any time to get a good idea of what I am looking for and if you have any questions, feel free to ask below.  I usually open commissions with a few slots available so I don't have an influx of messages coming in and so it is easier to keep track of.

And remember, this list is subject to change over time.  For example, I am not taking animations or other types of fanart besides pony and so on, but in the future, I may change those rules depending on how comfortable I get with making more complex (yet more expensive) commissions.  When I update this list, I will be sure to have it notify my watchers so you will know.

PRICES:

Keep in mind that right now I am only taking a few kinds of requests:  sketch, inked, sketch with digital color, and digitally colored in Paint.  The main reason for this is because I haven't fully mastered Photoshop or Illustrator.  If you are willing to pay more for a digitally-painted pic in PS or a vector in AI, let me know and we may be able to work something out.  Also, I have no scanner so all traditional pieces will have a photo taken of them.  Photos aren't of the best quality which is why the prices are lower for them…

2. Pony fanart only.
3. I will do comics but they will be priced per panel so it will end up being expensive so just a heads-up.
4. No animations.
5. No anthro or humanized.
6. Canons and OCs are allowed.  I will turn down any OCs that are 'Mary  Sues' or have overly complicated designs.  You are responsible for providing reference for your OC.
7. Shipping is acceptable as long as it's M/F and Canon (Shining Armor and Cadance for example)  For OCs I will do M/F only and I am ok with putting an OC with a canon as long as the canon character is single (OC with one of the Mane 6 for example).
8. Please specify whether you want your request to be drawn in show-accurate style or my cute chibi style.  This will NOT affect price.
9. Crossover fanart is ok, but only in an instance where I'm still drawing it as an MLP pony.  For example: a human character in pony form, not the other way around.  And again, clothes will bring up the cost.
10. No blood, gore, or any other form of violence.
11. No crude language, swearing, or racism.
12. No drug or alcohol use.
13. No porn.  I can do 'sexy' stuff like pinups or socks but nothing that will jump into NSFW territory.
14. Don't ask for anything involving a recurring meme or series in my gallery.  For example, no Copperponies, shake-it ponies, "Feel the ___", or "___ is sexiest pony" pics.  You can ask for similar pics but nothing that involves reusing one of my own personal templates.
15. Don't be afraid to give me some specifics about your requested pic like what pose you want the character to be in or what their expression should be and so on.  It might help me better if you describe what you want more specifically.  Just don't go crazy with this.
16. All commissions posted on Deviant Art will have the word "Commission:" in front and then your name.  If you want me to change your name to a title for the pic, please specify.
17. Let me know if you want your pic to appear publicly or have me send it to you privately via email only.
18. I am on the internet a lot so keeping in touch with me should not be a problem.  If I am unable to use the internet for a day or two due to connectivity issues or vacation or something, I will let you know.  If you send me a message and I don't reply for a day or two, send it again because I may have missed it or something due to a lot of messages per day.
19. I will not start the commission until I am paid.  If something drastic happens and I am unable to do the commission or you change your mind right before I start, let me know and I will return your money and cancel your request.
20. My signature/URL MUST be on all pics commissioned.  This prevents art theft.
21. This is a first-come, first-serve thing so the first 3 people to note me and give me the final say that they are able to pay me are the ones I will take.  I will update this journal each time a commissioner has made their request final.
22. Try to stay away from asking for really ridiculous things.  Keep in mind that I call the shots so I have the right to refuse ANY request at ANY time, but you are free to change your request to something else.

Ok, I've been silent about this for far too long but with what I've been hearing lately, I cannot keep it quiet any longer.  I have to get this off my chest.  This is important for ANYONE in the My Little Pony fandom so you all had better read carefully.

I've been hearing some rumors that some of the DHX staff have considered leaving the show because of all the hate against Equestria Girls....  There you go guys.  You keep hating and we'll lose enough of the show staff that they may not be able to continue it all because you were being judgmental hypocrites. 



Seriously, I lose a ton of respect for someone whenever I hear them say something negative thing about Equestria Girls.  At first it was just a little bit of fandom butthurt but if it's gotten to the point where some of the DHX staff are irked by us, then action needs to be taken.  And it is true, fans are complaining way too much about Equestria Girls.  I've heard some people whine and literally give Hasbro and DHX the middle finger about how Spike is going to be a dog (oh so now we all hate dogs all of a sudden?), how Twilight is apparently getting a boyfriend (no one has ANY evidence of that whatsoever), the fact that they're humans (even though we draw human fanart of them all the time), and a bunch of other really stupid complaints.  Yeah, I'm not joking, the complaints are really this stupid.

So what if Spike is a dog?  Dogs are adorable and Cathy Wesluck is still listed in the cast so that must mean he can still talk. And if he can't, who cares?!  At least he's still IN IT PERIOD!  And the reason he's a dog is quite obvious:  because he wasn't a pony so he didn't turn into a human.  So dragons must turn into other random animals like dogs or cats or something while ponies turn into humans.  Ever heard someone say a dog is "man's best friend"?  Yeah, that should pretty much sum up the whole reason Spike is a dog.

And like I said, you DO NOT KNOW that Twilight will fall in love with that guy or become his girlfriend.  He'll probably just be some helpful character who tags along.  It would be odd if she fell in love with him, but I highly doubt that will happen.  Oh, and I also love how you're saying he's probably "some jock douche bag" and yet he kindly offers to help her up when she falls down in that one scene.  Loving the logic on that one.  -____-

And the human thing.......really guys?  I know it came out of nowhere and that they are kinda thin and Barbie-like but be thankful that they are HUMANS and not anthros like we saw on that one promo image with the wings, ears, and cutie marks on their cheeks (facial cheeks, not butt cheeks).  And please don't say anything about them looking 'anorexic' or something, it's a freaking cartoon!  Lauren Faust made the Milky Way Galaxy Girls look kinda like that, are you going to hate on her for that too?!  Plus, we draw human fanart of them all the time and a lot of them are pretty sexualized so they can't draw them TOO much like how we do.  Hell, I'd be thankful that they are thin enough so that they aren't too sexual-looking.  Can you imagine how many parents would complain if they made the girls look like this?!

People are hating all over the place and making negative reaction videos and rants and hate-art and crap and yet all we've seen so far are a few promotional images and one measly trailer.  I'm getting sick and tired of just searching "Equestria Girls" and getting these kinds of results.  You guys gave this 'little girls show' a chance to begin with so why hate on this movie?  Who knows, it could be wonderful!  Remember back when a lot of fans thought that "Canterlot Wedding" was going to be stupid because it's about a wedding and Princess Cadance is too pink and girly and whatnot?  Well we were all proven wrong cuz we got loads of Power-Puff Girl-styled action, an epic changeling invasion, and musical numbers that rival that of a Disney film!  Do you see where I'm going with this?  Equestria Girls could be just as epic if not more epic!  I could be wrong but I have a strong feeling it will be.  We did see that one part where the supposed Sunset Shimmer was surrounded by some beam of light that kinda looked like the one that enveloped Queen Chrysalis in "Canterlot Wedding".  I get a feeling we're going to have some kind of magic showdown between her and Twilight.  

Just remember, when you hate on this, you're acting no differently than brony haters do.  Brony haters hate on us fans and this show because they assume it's all pink and girly and isn't well-made just because of the taboos that society has created over the years.  But a lot of those haters have become bronies in the end because they gave it a try and saw how good it is.  But for the ones that remain haters and bully bronies on the web constantly, you guys are no different from them when you rant and hate on Equestria Girls.  Don't be a hater, ok?  Don't hate or judge or jump to conclusions at all cuz that's not what this fandom is about.  We don't say "Love and Tolerance" for nothing.

So my plea to the fandom is simply this:  don't judge Equestria Girls based simply on one trailer and a few promotional images.  You can't properly judge a person before you get to know them so don't do the same with this movie.  Watch it first and see if you like it.  I guarantee you guys though that this will be a lot better than what we think it will be like.  Why do you think it's going to be a THEATRICAL FILM?!?  Huh?  Obviously there must be a reason it's getting all this promotion and going on the big screen and we'll all see why here in less than 2 weeks!

Now, if by any chance the movie turns out to be mundane and not what we were hoping for........still relax.  We've been told numerous times that it is not canon to the actual show itself and is just a spinoff so it wont' hurt the show.  We do still have season 4 on the horizon this winter/late fallish so just think of that.  I know we have a while to wait for that but you guys can do it.  There are other fandoms to get involved with and even more importantly, real life issues that we need to focus on like making a living and being there for our family and friends and helping to feed the needy and fix the economy and whatnot.  Ponies can't be the only thing we do in this world so let's not make it that way.

Alright guys.  Considering I still don't have a job and I have to start paying my loans in a couple weeks, I'm going to need to find some other way to make money without having to rely too heavily on getting a real full-time day job any time soon.  Even if I do get a job, I doubt it will be anything big so I'll keep the job but still do commissions.  Plus I need to save up for Bronycon.

I just would like a bit of advice on what and what not to do when opening myself for commissions.  Do you have any advice on how I should price my art using samples of things I've drawn?  How many should I take at a time?  What sort of things should I open for? (any pony fanart in general, pony OCs, sculptures or customs, human pony pinups, etc...).  Tell me in the comments below.

I uploaded a pic about this earlier but I just thought it would be good to make a journal entry about it as well.  As you all may know, I've been sending a few designs to the "ponies vs villains" contest.  I only did 4 for the ponies part but I worked hard on them and I hope at least one of them is a runner up or something.

That journal entry explains everything.  Yeah, gotta love car problems.  Hell, I don't even have a car and I understand this completely.  Tox is scheduled to come to Bronycon and I would hate for him to cancel going there cuz I'm gonna be there too and would love to meet him.  So if you guys are able to donate or would like to pay for a commission, please go help him out.  I'm still not able to pay for too many things right now with the current jobless state I'm in, but I'm sure there are many out there who can so please help a fellow brony out.  

A good friend of mine in the fandom that I met at Cloudsdale Congress this year needs our help.  He usually goes by Chocolate Pony in the Tumblrverse but you might know him by ~SouthParkTaoist.  He's done a few banners for Equestria Daily such as these
 
as well as several Tumblr blogs like The FyreFly and the Chocolate Pony ask blog.  

He's a great artist and an interesting person and he's in the middle of a financial crisis and could be homeless if he doesn't find a job soon.  This link leads to his Tumblr post that talks about the situation: [link]  He could use some PayPal donations and he's also opening himself for commissions.  I unfortunately can't afford any commissions from him at the time being but I've donated as much money as I could and if any of you out there have some money to spare, please donate or commission him to draw you something.

Alright, I'm back from my bro's graduation.  I wanted to see if I could work on something tonight but my neck feels weird and I'm kinda tired so we'll see...

My brother's college graduation is this Friday and I'm leaving tomorrow morning to go see it.  I'll be gone Friday, Saturday, and most of Sunday so if you send a note or comment, don't expect to get a response until then.  

I'm prepared to come back to several hundred messages in my inbox along with the rest of the stuff on my other internet accounts.  I was going to work on a cute pic and upload it tonight but then it would just get too many favs and comments and stuff and that would only add to the messages I'll be getting.  Well I guess I'll just have to empty my inbox (something I never do) this time so that I'll just know that all the messages in my inbox are new and unread.

Well anyways, see ya guys.  You don't have to comment on this (plus doing so would only add to my influx of messages over the course of 2.5 days so I'd rather you don't), I'm just letting you all know that I'll be leaving so you aren't wondering where I am...  :3

We get quite a few new characters in this like Shining Armor, Trixie, the CMC, and Spike!  

My voice isn't in this one but Discord is seen briefly in a flashback and we find out why he had a dramatic change in appearance after episode 1.  I'm also credited as OptimusSmyth in this, my former YouTube name.

Hey guys, I thought about 2 things recently that I thought might be good to ask you all about but they're too big of questions to make into polls quite yet.  I've already asked both of them on Tumblr but they didn't get much responses considering how my Tumblr followers aren't very excited about non-art-related stuff and I have more watchers on DA anyhow.  If you have time, read through and let me know what you think in the comments.  There's a TL;DR at the bottom also if you don't like reading long boring stuff like me.

The first one involves human ponies.  

I found this Tumblr-circulating image recently: [link] that you might be familiar with if you watch Silva Hound on YouTube (and if you don't you seriously should, he's an awesome brony musician).  I just thought it was rather lovely and felt inspired to do the same.  Would you guys be ok with me drawing human pinups like that?  They'd be MLPFIM female characters and probably in a more realistic style like that pic.  I'd also like to see if I can use bigger programs like Paint Tool Sai or Photoshop (which would eventually lead to more use of said programs therefore bringing up the quality of my work).

And don't panic, it wont' be NSFW, I don't do that.  Just some tasteful sexy stuff like bikinis or something, no straight-up porn.  I mean you guys seemed ok with that whole "sexiest pony" thing so I'm sure this would be alright too.  I probably wont' go crazy with them too and may only do certain characters.  I still like doing my regular adorable pony pics.

I used to make pics like this of Yoko but they're not the greatest so I'd have to really improve plus I'm terrible at drawing clothes so that's why Yoko was so easy for me to start drawing cuz she barely wears any clothes to begin with.  I'll let you in on a secret though: I used to be good at drawing humans like 5ish years ago but then something happened and I lost my touch and my figure drawing class didn't help either so this might be a good chance to get back into it.  I need to get used to drawing stuff other than ponies anyhow but it would still kinda be pony-related so it would be ok.  The other thing is, I am having a tough time finding a job so I might open commissions soon so I need to get used to making higher-quality art and we all know some people would pay to have a pic of a sexy girl.  So yeah, just let me know what you think below and don't judge me.  :3

Now the next question is a little more important and involves my Tumblr and my adorable chubby ponysona

I was just thinking today: it's hard for me to backtrack some old ask blog comics on my Tumblr, iamaleximusprime [link] , but I kinda already treat that mod blog as an ask blog too so I thought it would make things easier on me to just create a separate blog for my pony kind of like the Ask Palette Swap blog and have it revolve just around him.  Then I can just keep all my other art on the mod blog along with blog posts and reblogs and stuff.  It wouldn't be that big of an issue really, I've already done a good job with the ask blog stuff on the mod blog but mod blogs dont' really seem to go too well when they're also treated like ask blogs and Tumblr is horrible with organization and searching so this would make it easier on you guys.

Now it would be a lot like what you've already seen from my ponysona comics so far.  No particular story, just random little silly comics of my pony joined by some canon characters and some other OCs every now and then.  Doing art, lolly-gagging, and being adorable.  :3  You guys seem to like my pony so I thought he deserves an ask-blog of his own with just stuff about him and my other art can just stay on my mod blog like it is now.

There's one question I have though:  what would I name the blog?  Should the title have to do with my actual name, Alex?  Should it just simply be Ask-Alex or Alex-the-Fat-Pony or Ask-the-Artist-Pony or Chubby-Pony or what?  Let me know in the comments below.

If I do get this blog up and running soon, I'll be sure to let you all know when it does so you can follow it if you have a Tumblr.

The mission: State 6 facts and tag 8 people

1.  I am currently unemployed and desperately searching for a job but luckily still have my sanity.  

2.  My dog just died recently but my cat is still around and she's sleeping on my bed as I type this.  :3

3.  I used to enjoy and be obsessed with video games when I was a teenager but I can't get myself to play them as much as I used to anymore.  I usually only do it when I'm on roadtrips and can't talk to my internet pals or if I feel I should just play them.  Really the only game I play these days is Portal.

4.  Before I joined the pony fandom, I participated mainly in the Transformers fandom and drew fanart for it and stuff.  I had Beast Wars toys when I was a kid but then I stopped.  The awesome Michael Bay films rekindled my love for Transformers back in 2007.  Yes, I think the Bay films were a huge success.  Don't judge me.

5.  I love to collect toys.  I have Bionicle Legos and other various Legos, an army of Transformers, ponies, and much more.

6.  I think NSFW artwork (porn) is disgusting but I am ok with 'sexy' art (pinups, bikinis, ponies in socks, artistic nudity, etc...) and am ok with drawing it as long as it's SWS (Sexy With Standards).

7.  I've only been to one convention (Cloudsdale Congress) but I am coming to Bronycon this summer and hope to see a lot of my awesome friends there.  

8.  My favorite childhood movie(s) is the Land Before Time.

9.  I get extremely irritated by cacophonic repetitive sounds like snoring, tapping, or clock-ticking, especially when I'm sleeping or trying to concentrate on something.

10.  Before I actually draw a picture, I take my finger and draw lines in midair or on a flat surface to practice how I'm going to do my strokes when I actually sit down and draw it.  I'm weird.

12.  I don't exercise a whole lot and am kind of out of shape but I'm actually not fat like my pony is.

13.  I have a very extensive head-canon about Celestia and Luna's youthful years and am starting a fanfiction series about it.

EDIT:  Well I tried out LS with one of my friends to test it and it made my PC run a bit slowly and I cannot have too many programs opened and it makes Vista go into 'basic' mode which I hate.  I haven't cancelled the streaming event or anything but I think I might do it on my Mac instead and just vector the image in Adobe Illustrator which I am ok with cuz I wanted to make the pic as a t-shirt design and probably enter it into the WLF contest.  Plus my Mac is new and runs faster and should probably be able to handle the stream a lot better than my PC can.

If all goes well, this stream should be ok but if I can't figure it out I might have to cancel and try it another time.  Sorry if that happens but I am new to LS.  If any of you have advice to give, feel free to do so in the comments...

Screw Livestream.  All I needed to do was make it record my screen and all the poor attendees got was a black screen with a yellow circle bouncing around.  I don't know what the hell the problem is, I was doing everything my dear friends kept telling me to and nothing was working.  Just forget it.  I don't even feel like trying to figure it out, I'm too mad so don't expect any streams soon here until I can figure it out if I ever do.  I'm sorry I wasted your guys' time...
