Well a few weeks ago, the Great and Powerful :iconpixelkitties: came and asked me if I was interested in taking part of the 2013 calender project for the Brony Thank-You Fund. [link] That's the same organization that is putting together the little brony advertisement that will air on the hub in just a few days...

This was my reaction ---> [link]

I was so happy to hear someone was interested enough in my brony fanart to let me in on such a project! I've never made artwork for something like a calender and I've never done anything collaborative like this before! After college is done I would certainly not mind getting more involved with other collaborations such as this one! :D

So my month of choice was August and keeping with the whole summertime theme, I thought something beach-related would be fitting. I was going to make a pic like this a while ago but the closing of summer caused me to put it off (much like it has with the Copperponies sadly) then the idea of using it for this project came to mind so here it is. It took quite a while to do and is comprised of not one but several very large image files of each character and the background. Quite a lot of work, so much so that I had to make an entire folder for it in my MLP folder on my computer! And this is vexel artwork done in Paint and Paint.net! No Photoshop or Illustrator here folks! :D

Thank you ever so much for letting me in on this rare opportunity, PixelKitties, it means a lot to me!

This link directs you to the page for you to order the calender. >>> [link] <<< There are dates included in it like conventions and the birthdays of the MLPFIM staff and more importantly, all proceeds will be used to fund the Derpy Hooves Animation Scholarship at CalArts so BUY IT!!

Same issue as before. you're having some lighting issues. One issue is the light source to begin with. The sun is your light-source, and appears from the top right of your piece of artwork. The sun would be in the background of the picture because of this, but the shadows speak otherwise. Pinkie's shadow goes in front of her when it should be going to her left. Applejack's in working the same way. Derpy's shadow would be farther out, because a shadow would end on the ground through a straight line with your light-source. So it would probably be farther out but also closer up towards the camera. The reason being is drawings a straight line from the brightest part of your light-source, the very corner, and running a straight line through Derpy, then imagining this on and actual 3D plane, I would say it would come down a bit towards the viewer. I know this seems picky, but it actually messes with the depth of the picture in my opinion.

You could have wrote this off with the sun being father out, but then the light would stretch more across the sky in a horizontal angle, and the sky would have to be more orange, because then it would start to go to dusk. With your current light source, Twilight's body shadow would actually be opposite (somewhat) her front would be less shadowed and her side would be a little bit more. Also, what the hell is Rarity looking at? her viewpoint seems to be somewhere above Twilight.

Also, same thing again with the floating characters. AJ's fore-hooves should be more flat, because of the weight being put onto them. Actually, the way you have Rarity's left fore-hoof is perfect.

This is very well drawn, the shading and highllights of the ponies anes amazed me, the swimsuits are adorable and match the ponies personality perfectly. It's almost as if I am right there, watching them play volleyball on the beach. The expressions are very fitting, RD being all like "I'm gonna hand you your flank on a plate." apple jack like "Oh no your not Dashie." Twilight, Fluttershy and pinkie in amazement of their teammates level of play and Rarity like "We got this in the bag" Adding Derpy made it 50% cooler than it would've been without her.
